I wanted a blue cocktail to toast the birth of my new grandson. This one was not only the appropriate color, it was tasty too. I used sweet & sour mix & I rimmed my glass w/ blue sugar although I wish I had dyed kosher salt instead. Thanks Isaac!-28 Sep 2006

I brought this recipe to my local tavern to "test drive" before I bought the ingredients. It was a huge hit! Everyone in the bar loved the alcohol combination and the owner even added it to his cocktail list. Thanks so much for the recipe!-05 Apr 2009

20 best Blue Curaçao cocktails

Blue curaçao equals BLUE DRINKS, or at least various shades of aquamarine. There are numerous other orange-flavoured liqueurs but blue curaçao stands out as the only vivid blue ingredient to be found in bars across the world. And like many things from the 1970s, blue drinks are "retro" and so back in vogue. Here's our best blue curaçao cocktails.

Gun Metal Blue
With: Mezcal, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, lime juice, crème de pêche and cinnamon syrup.
We say: Orange, peach and cinnamon delicately flavour this mezcal-based Margarita riff.

Vacation Martini
With: Vanilla vodka, coconut liqueur, lime juice, pineapple juice, egg white and De Kuyper Blue Curaçao.
We say: A great-looking holiday cocktail that's broaching on Tiki in style.

Blue Lady
With: De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, gin, lemon juice and egg white.
We say: From W. J. Tarling's 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book, this striking looking cocktail packs a whopping 45ml (1½oz) of blue curaçao but is far from being a "disco drink"

Heisenberg Cocktail
With: Añejo tequila, mezcal, maraschino, lime juice, lavender syrup, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao and sugar syrup.
We say: A Breaking Bad blue crystal meth inspired Margarita-like mix of seven ingredients.

Bikini Martini
With: Gin, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, peach schnapps and lemon juice.
We say: Dick Bradsell created this 90s' "Martini" for an Agent Provocateur swimwear launch.

Blue Hawaii
With: Light white rum, vodka, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, pineapple juice, lime juice, lemon juice and sugar syrup.
We say: Aloha! A 1957 Tiki classic from Henry Kaiser's Hawaiian Village Hotel in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Blue Velvet Margarita
With: Tequila, triple sec, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao and lime juice.
We say: A lurid but tasty Margarita from the Velvet Margarita Cantina.

Corpse Reviver No. Blue
With: Gin, Lillet Blanc, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, lemon juice and absinthe.
We say: A revered classic cocktail blue-rinsed by Jacob Briars.

Sharman-Cox Daiquiri
With: Light rum, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, lime juice, lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white.
We say: A foam-topped blue riff on two classic cocktails which honours two men named Cox, in addition to the headline Hannah Sharman-Cox.

Sidecar No. Blue
With: Cognac, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, lemon juice, sugar syrup and egg white.
We say: Blue curaçao replaces the more usual triple sec in this Sidecar to give it a blue hue.

Blue Eyed Martini
With: Vodka, gin, dry vermouth and De Kuyper Blue Curaçao.
We say: A blue-rinsed Vodka Martini with a hint of piney gin.

Darlington
With: Gin, calvados, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, dry vermouth, lemon juice and sugar syrup.
We say: This aquamarine blue, delicately fruity gin-based cocktail comes from W. J. Tarling's 1937 Café Royal Cocktail Book.

Blue Lagoon
With: Vodka, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao, lime juice and lemon-lime soda.
We say: This cocktail is also known as The Swimming Pool and lounging beside one, or at least imagining you are, is what this cocktail is about.

    Blue Christmas Coconut Cocktail

Does anyone else have the song “Blue Christmas” in their head now? You’re welcome. You can easily add a little sparkle and fun to your holiday gatherings by making a big ol’ batch of this Blue Christmas Coconut Cocktail! Also, you can easily make this drink non-alcoholic by eliminating the vodka and using a blue curacao syrup in place of the blue curacao.

Can you believe how close we are to Christmas? I’m super determined to get you in the holiday spirit today with this drink. It’s one of my new favorites, along with this White Christmas Coconut Margarita Punch. This baby is so full of festive sparkle you won’t be able to resist making them as soon as possible. Pretty drinks just bring me so much joy! I’ve always been completely obsessed with Christmas and it is my absolute favorite time of the year. Do you have any traditions with your family? We had simple traditions growing up, but I loved it that way. We would all open gifts (and take our time doing so in order to make it last) and just hang out for the entire morning in front of the Christmas tree with Christmas music playing in the background. Those were the best times.

I have a great Christmas gift idea for someone in your life if you’re still looking for last-minute ideas. I don’t know about you, but I use my blender almost every single day. My blender is several years old and VERY loud. Every time I go to run it I yell to Mr. Wishes, “Don’t get scared – just turning the blender on!” It literally shakes the house it’s so loud! This new Hamilton Beach Sound Shield 950 Blender is such a breathe of fresh air. This bad boy is great for people with kids that nap during the day or go to bed early as you can still make your recipes that use the blender and you can still make your daily smoothies or frozen, icy drinks without disturbing anyone’s sleep! It is 55% quieter than a traditional blender….count me IN.

This sound shield blender has a hinged, 2-piece sound shield that opens and closes over the 52 oz. MultiBlend™ glass jar. With 950 watts of power, 5 speeds and three programmed settings, including smoothie (which I use the most), you can do everything from mix salsas to puree soups and other foods. Stainless steel blades are awesome at crushing ice, and it has a drip-free pour spout for less messes! The blade and jar are also both dishwasher safe.

    3 Program Settings:

    • Smoothie – Blend fresh or frozen
    • Ice Crush – Break ice into small pieces fine enough for slushies or cocktails
    • Clean – Add warm water, dish detergent and blend for easy, quick cleaning.

Here are the special features of the Hamilton Beach Sound Shield 950 all in one place for you:

    • Quiet Blend™ technology
    • Hinged 2-piece sound shield for noise reduction
    • MultiBlend™ jar and blade provides versatile blending for smoothies, icy drinks, salsas, soups and more
    • 52 oz. dishwasher-safe glass jar
    • 5 Speeds and 3 programs with pulse function for ultimate control
    • Stainless steel blades for superior ice crushing
    • 950 watt peak power motor

    What is Blue Curacao?

Blue Curacao is an orange liqueur invented in the 19th century by Dutch settlers on Curaçao, an island in the Caribbean. There were originally several colors of Curaçao liqueur, including clear, blue, red, green and orange. The most popular colors today are blue and clear. The liqueur is flavored with the Laraha orange peel, a special type of orange tree that grows on the island.

The original curacao liqueur has been made on the island since 1896. The Bols company invented Blue Curacao and started selling it as early as 1912. It’s become popular over the years for making blue tropical drinks that are often associated with beach resorts.

Is Blue Curacao naturally colored? No! Food coloring is what gives it its distinctive hue.

How to Make a Blue Lagoon Cocktail

Here is a simple visual guide to making this delicious cocktail. Printable recipe card below.

    Ingredients

The ingredients for this blue cocktail are: vodka, blue curacao and lemonade (use store bought or make your own … squeeze some fresh lemon juice, dilute and sweeten).

You will need one ounce of vodka.

… and one ounce of blue curaçao.

    Instructions

Start with a tulip or highball glass with ice. Pour the liquors over the fresh ice then top off with approximately six ounces lemonade. I find the drink blends readily, but a few shakes in a cocktail shaker with ice will make for a more exciting presentation.
